UPFI Film Center – July 2017

Congratulations to the following students/alumni who were chosen as finalists at the FACINE 24 or 24th Filipino Cine International Festival on October 20 to 22, 2017 at Roxie Theater, San Francisco, USA.

Jethro Jamon’s BIG BOY

Gilb Baldoza’s NANDITO PA RIN TAYO PARA SA ISA’T ISA

Antonne Santiago’s JUANA AND THE SACRED SHORES

Clare del Rosario’s PITONG DAAN AT ISA

About FACINE:

“Twenty-two features and forty-three short films were submitted for consideration. All finalists will be submitted to their respective Jury which will screen and make their deliberations between June and August. Sometime in August, the Jury members will meet and select the winners, their names will be kept in sealed envelopes to be opened on the Awarding Night on October 22 at the Roxie Theater, immediately after the Closing Film.

Widely considered the premier showcase of Filipino films in the US, the FACINE festival is now the longest-running event of its kind outside of the Philippines.

It must be mentioned that there are other submitted films that are equally worthy of inclusion this year – limited resources provide us limited programming time slots – FACINE assures its public that this year’s selection, while they speak of the quiet horrors of contemporary times, these films afford us spaces to contemplate on our existence and give us hope for the better.”

Here’s the complete list of entries on the said festival:

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:

• Paglalantad (Coming out)
• Diskriminasyon (Discrimination)
• Pangkasariang Pagkakakilanlan (Gender Identity)
• Kasarian at Uri (Gender and Class)
• Kasarian at Paggawa (Gender and Labor)
• Kasarian, HIV, at Kalusugan (Gender, HIV, and Health)
• Kasarian at Bansa (Gender and Nation)
• Kasarian at Katarungan (Gender and Justice)
• Kasarian at Usapang Pangkapayapaan (Gender and Peace Talks)
