The UPFI would like to congratulate its outstanding alumna Bianca Balbuena-Liew for being awarded Producer of the Year by the Asian Film Commissions Network in Busan, South Korea, for helping pave the way for Filipino filmmakers to showcase their talents and stories beyond the Philippines.

She also received the Camera Obscura Artistic Excellence Award at the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ (FDCP) Film Ambassadors’ Night 2019. The Camera Obscura Artistic Excellence Award is given by the FDCP to films, filmmakers, and artists whose achievements and breakthroughs have positively inspired the Philippine film industry to aspire to greater heights.

The UP Film Institute congratulates its faculty Prof. Arminda V. Santiago for being appointed by the UP Board of Regents last February 4, 2019 as the new dean of the UP College of Mass Communication. She is to assume the responsibility currently held by Dean Elena E. Pernia.

Professor Santiago teaches a wide range of subjects and topics not just in film but also in the field of communication and media. She obtained her MA in Radio, T.V., & Film from the University of Texas and her Ph.D. in Communication from UP Diliman. She has also served as the chair of the UP Department of Film and Audio-Visual before the UP Film Institute merger and recently as associate dean of the UP College of Mass Communication.

All our heartfelt congratulations to you, Prof. Armi!
