Good news, everyone!!!

UP Film Institute’s Faculty member, Dr. Rolando Tolentino will be launching his book, Wagi/Sawi, together with his other 10 books tomorrow, October 19, 2017 at UP Film Studio, 4:00 to 6:00 pm. One of the books to be launched is “Keywords: Essays on Philippine Media and Neocolonialisms (Quezon City: Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2016).

The UP Film Institute congratulates its student, Steven Paul Evangelio for winning Best Film and Audience Choice Award at the #FreedomMov_E Film Competition, for his film “Lupad, Lupad.” The film is also a finalist at the ASEAN Youth Video Competition.

The UP Film Institute congratulates its MAMS Film students, Mariannel Crisostomo and Jonnie Lyn Dasalla for winning third place at the 1st C.H.A.N.G.E Film Festival with the campaign theme “Change a Heart, Change the World,” for their film, Balik last September 22, 2017. The competition is organized by C.H.A.N.G.E. Foundation, Inc.

Announcement: Lunsad ng Wagi/Sawi at 10 pang libro ni Dr. Rolando Tolentino

The UP Film Institute congratulates UPFI student, Max Canlas for winning Bronze Award at the CineSB 7: The Main Installment – Sibol Category last July 31 to August 2, 2017 at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. His co-UPFI student, Mervine Aquino is also one of the finalists for the said competition for his film “Interlude.”

Max’s film, “Akalingwan Nang Rosa” which was made during his Film 131 class is about a 50-year-old transwoman forgets she had sexual reassignment surgery upon emerging from coma. Her 7-year-old daughter helps her recollect her memories.

Aside from this recognition, this film was part of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino: Sine Kabataan 2017 last August 16-22, 2017 and is also part of the Official Selections on the Sine Gitnang Luzon Originals (SiGLO 2) on September 4-November 24, 2017: CLTV36.

The UP Film Institute (UPFI) is currently seeking applicants for the:

Media Production Specialist II (SG-15) position

Qualification Standards:

– Education: Bachelor’s degree relevant to the job

–  Experience: 1 year of relevant experience

– Training: 4 hours of relevant training

– Eligibility: Career Service Professional

Terms of Reference:

  • – Implementation of the requirements of the approved programs of films to be screened including overseeing the physical management of the  screening venue in coordination with Administrative and Theater Services Section, faculty coordinators and/or staff concerned.
  • – Assists the Media Production Specialist III in the selection of films to be shown at the UPFI.
  • – Prepares and submits regular written statistical and qualitative reports on film screened at the UPFI.
  • – Writes and assists in the preparation of posters, flyers, brochures, and other promotional literature of films to be screened and also other programs and activities sponsored by the Institute.
  • – Assists in the organization, coordination and implementation of approved special programs, events and screenings under the supervision of the Faculty Coordinator for Theater Services and Extension.

UPFI congratulates UPFI Alumnus, Richard Bolisay for being accepted as one of the new Chevening Filipino scholars! He is one of the 27 Filipino future leaders were awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarships by the British government to study postgraduate courses in the UK.

Announcement: Lunsad ng Wagi/Sawi at 10 pang libro ni Dr. Rolando Tolentino

The UP Film Institute congratulates the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) for its successful “Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino” (PPP) this month of August, with twelve (12) participating films.

Last August 20, the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino honored the following films:

Birdshot – Critics’ Choice Award
Patay na si Hesus – Jury’s Choice Award
100 Tula Para kay Stella – Audience’s Choice Award

In addition, UPFI congratulates its student, Don Senoc (with his production team Moore Minglana and Steven Evangelio) for being one of the awardees of the Jury’s Choice Award in the Sinekabataan Short Film Competition, for his film, “Delayed si Jhemerlyn Rose.”
