The UP Film Institute mourns the passing of teacher, mentor and friend veteran actor of Philippine Theater and Philippine Cinema Bernardo Bernardo. Mr. Bernardo taught classes on acting for the UP Film Institute.
Bernardo Bernardo took Journalism at University of Santo Tomas and Master of Theater Arts from the University of California Santa Barbara.
He is best known for his role as Manay Sharon in Ishmael Bernal’s “Manila By Night” (also titled “City After Dark”) where he was awarded the the Gawad Urian Best Actor award in 1981. He has also starred in Lawrence Fajardo’s “Imbisibol,” which won the Gawad Urian this time for Best Supporting Actor award in 2016. He was also part of Lav Diaz’s Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis”. Among his last films was Ang Lawaran by Loy Arcenas.
His remains lie at St. Peter chapels Araneta Ave (Room 204) Viewing will start tonight at 9 PM.
Cremation is set on Tuesday (March 13, 2018).
