Brief Description

Film Appreciation and Criticism is a step further after simply watching a film for entertainment or stress-relieving purposes. This involves some amount of time thinking and discussing about what one just saw. Through this process, dialogues about a film produce various insightful interpretations and perspectives.

The workshop involves analysis of films from different vantage points like entertainment, artistry, politics, and culture. It also includes exercises as to which the workshop participant can cultivate the skill and habit of reading films and making meaning out of it.

About the Facilitator
Prof. Patrick Campos has been a long-time faculty of the U.P. Film Institute and has taught film and communication courses since 2001. He has authored several film, media, and communication book chapters and co-edited the book “Communication and Media Theories” with Rolando Tolentino, Randy Solis, and Choy Pangilinan. His book published by the UP Press entitled “The End of National Cinema: Filipino Film at the Turn of the Century” will be launched this October 2016.
