Brief Description:
The Non-linear Editing Workshop teaches the fundamental to semi-advanced skills in non-linear editing using a digital editing software (Adobe Premiere CS 6) in a Mac computer lab.

Participants learn by a series of lectures and hands-on application of the essentials of digital non-linear editing. They are able to execute their acquired knowledge and skills through editing a short scene from a narrative film, a music video, and an entire short film.

Course Outline:
• Introduction to video post-production
• Editing concepts and techniques
• Editing as an integral part of filmmaking
• Capabilities of post-production

About the Facilitator

UP Film Institute’s Digital Photography workshop starts on November 17!

Brief Description
With the advent of digital technology, photography has never been this easy and instant. It allows one to explore and experiment with the art of visual storytelling—a good foundation for aspiring filmmakers.

This course is designed to introduce and explore the art of photography as a primary skill needed in film production. Composition, framing, lighting, camera settings, and photo editing are included in the topic discussions as well. As this workshop falls within the scope of digital technology, it also takes time in thoroughly discussing the parts and operations of a digital camera.

• Basic photography skills
• Fundamental operations of a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera
• Principles and elements of design
• Composition

About the Facilitator
Renan Saliva currently teaches photography at the U.P. Film Institute in which he was granted with the Best Thesis award in his student days. He has worked for various TV shows, won a Golden Dove Award, and went back to the university to teach.

Prof. Patrick F. Campos is a member of the faculty of film at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, where he received the 2017 Chancellor’s Award for outstanding professor. He is author of works on Philippine and Southeast Asian cinemas, media, and popular culture, and his latest book, The End of National Cinema: Filipino Film at the Turn of the Century (2016), was a finalist for the 2017 National Book Awards. He is editor of two leading Philippine journals on media and art, Humanities Diliman and Plaridel; director of the Office of Research and Publication of the UP College of Mass Communication, where he was named outstanding professor of 2015; the secretary of the cinema committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA); and a member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino.
