The UP Film Institute together with the UP Cineastes, UP Cinema as Art Movement and the Probe Media Foundation hosted the premiere of the much awaited Citizen Jake by Mike de Leon last March 10, 2018 at 7pm. Citizen Jake was Mike de Leon’s latest film after 18 years hiatus. Mike de Leon is best known  his films Kakabakaba Kaba  ( 1980) Kisapmata (1981)Batch 81 (1982) , Sister Stella L (1984), Sister Stella L has been cited by Urian as one of the best films in the 1980s. His last film before Citzen Jane was Bayaning Third World (1999) De Leon has won Best Film , Best Director and Best Screenplay for Kisapmata at Metro Manila Film Festival.

The  full house audience was welcomed by UP Film Institute Director Sari Dalena and the film was introduced by Probe Media’s Che Che Lazaro. In her introduction Che Che Lazaro stated that “Although I have no claims of any qualifications to speak and be considered a film expert . I decided to educate myself by talking to two people To Mike about his work on Citizen Jake and to Citizen Jake himself also known as Atom whom I have known since he was nine years old”. “The film uses several perspectives that makes you more aware that you are watching fiction at the same time it also uses archival material which reminds you that the story is a thread anchored in real events that took place. ” It is a contemporary story that reflects what is happening in our society”. “Most importantly it holds up a mirror to us so we can see more clearly a reflection of ourselves the society we live in and the roles we play in life. Ladies and Gentlemen Citizen Jake. ”

The director and producer Mike de Leon together with his crew were also present.

A public screening will be held on March 13 and 23 both at 7pm at UP Cine Adarna tickets are priced at P150.
