Once again, the UP Film Institute congratulates its UPFI Faculty member, Prof. Nick Deocampo for being chosen as the FACINE 24 Gawad Gintong Ani (Gold Harvest) Lifetime Achievement Awardee.

Mauro Feria Tumbocon Jr wrote a post on the FACINE Facebook group. He wrote:

FACINE 24 HIGHLIGHTS: Gawad Gintong Ani honoree Nick Deocampo cites importance of education. supports FACINE’s thrust on film literacy; Mikhail Red’s BIRDSHOT dominates awards night with 7 wins; San Francisco film audience celebrates diversity of Filipino cinema

In what could be a signal of paradigm shift of FACINE’s direction, as festival and venue for community engagement in the years to come, Gawad Gintong Ani honoree, filmmaker, educator and film historian, Prof. Nick Deocampo, both in his acceptance address and workshop interaction, at a most historic moment, celebrating both the Centenary of FIlipino cinema and 120th year anniversary of film in Asia, emphasized the need to study our cinematic history, be mindful of our cinematic legacy and express his commitment to support FACINE’s work in the area of film literacy as a vital component of the organization and of the festival.

Aside from this recognition, his book, “Eiga: Cinema in the Philippines During World War II” won Best Book in Art, Non-Literary Division at the 36th National Book Awards. This book is published by Anvil Publishing Inc. (See article, http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/lifestyle/artandculture/633600/36th-national-book-awards-winners-announced/story/)
